POSTER TASK
After conducting initial research on Topshop's recent ethical issues I produced a poster outlining the main issue that has shown a reoccurence with Topshop over the years; slave labour. Collaborations with celebrities such has Kate Moss and BeyoncĂ© have been found to be paying workers as little as £4.30 a day which is 44p an hour for shifts as long as 9 and 1/2 hours. This would mean that the workers producing the ivy park range would have to save a months wages plus more just to afford some of the garments such as leggings that they are producing for the range.
Topshop has denied all these claims and a spokesperson has stated that collection had a 'rigorous' ethical trading programme and that all of these claims and the story was 'unfounded'.
Anti-exploitation campaigner Jakub Sobik has described the ivy park scandal as a 'severe case of exploitation, bordering on slavery. In addition to the little pay, the workers were restricted at night by being locked into their on-site accommodation.
